Do you like the sound of foraging for wild food in your local landscape? Have you thought about wild foraging but haven't had the know-how or confidence to really go for it? Then this class is for you! Learn the basic skills you need to begin your own foraging adventures in responsible, safe, and enjoyable way.

Come out to Commonweal Garden and explore the coastal prairies, riparian zones and gardens with new eyes to discover the abundance, usefulness and beauty of wild plants. We will cover how to identify some key edible plants, discuss the superior nutritional values typically found in wild food, learn what plants to avoid and learn strategies for enhancing wild food production and sustainable harvesting methods.   We'll discuss regulations around collecting, and strategies for expanding your foraging opportunities.

You’ll also learn how to make Matt’s wild weed raw energy bars, manzanita, madrone and toyon “sugar”, and process wild food staples such as wapato, pond lilly, and cattails. Go home with a sampling of processed wild foods and the knowledge to be a more confident wild forager.

Watch Matt in the field talking about plantain, stinging nettle, and on the Gourmet Hippy show making wild food bars.
